Nancy's Story...

Getting Started
Nancy Lane was blessed with parents who cultivated in her a strong work ethic, a persistent nature and a compassionate heart. These characteristics have served Nancy well throughout her personal and professional lives.

At age 17, Nancy began her business career by working for a title company and as a designer for contractors before finally entering the commercial real estate profession.

Building her Business
Utilizing the skills and experience gleaned from her prior employers, Nancy quickly advanced in her real estate career with the McCarty-Holman Company, earning her Broker’s license and handling sales, leasing, acquisitions and property management for all owned real estate for the company, a portfolio of nearly $40 million. She held the position of Director of Real Estate until the family sold the company some 18 years later.

While with McCarty-Holman, Nancy recognized that the CCIM designation was a highly regarded mark of achievement in commercial real estate, and she earned that prestigious designation in 1996.

In 1997, Nancy began her own brokerage career, quickly establishing herself as a trusted real estate professional and incorporating Nancy Lane Commercial Realty, Inc.  After growing that business for 18 years, she joined REALTOR® Josh Harkins to form her current firm, Lane-Harkins Commercial Real Estate. Serving as the principle broker for Lane-Harkins, Nancy handles acquisitions, dispositions, sales, leasing and property management for clients throughout the United States. Nancy’s keen business sense, her thorough research and preparation and her determination to protect her clients’ best interest are hallmarks of her relationships with her clients.

Family Ties
Nancy applies that same care and attention with her family. Jesse, her husband of over 40 years, is also a REALTOR®, and served as the 2011 National President of the REALTORS® Land Institute. Jesse and their children and grandchildren form a loving and supportive network. Nancy loves it when the house is full of family.

A Legacy of Involvement
Her service with the REALTOR® family began in 1997, where she has served extensively on the local, state and national levels. Nancy is a willing and unselfish mentor to others and has given her time and expertise whenever asked, often volunteering to shoulder the most challenging tasks.

In 2005, when Nancy was serving as President of the Mississippi REALTORS®, Hurricane Katrina’s 28-foot storm surge struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast, obliterating coastal communities and leaving tens of thousands of Mississippians homeless. As the storm approached, Nancy anticipated that assistance would be needed, and she worked with MAR’s CEO and legal counsel to establish the Mississippi REALTORS® Disaster Relief Fund. Over the weeks and months that followed, Nancy met in person or by phone almost daily to review the thousands of applications submitted to the Fund. Donations to the Fund were received from REALTORS® all over the nation, and nearly $4 million of housing-related assistance was distributed. The Fund continues to this day to respond to housing-related needs in Mississippi and beyond. Nancy’s leadership in this effort was crucial to its success and demonstrates her dedication to selfless service.

She has earned the respect and admiration of her fellow REALTORS® with her thoughtful insight into the financial, advocacy, governance and community impact strategies of the REALTOR® organization.

Giving Back
Nancy Lane has spent her life nurturing and encouraging others – her family, her clients, her fellow REALTORS®. She is committed to bringing the same level of care and expertise if elected to serve NAR as Treasurer for 2021-2022.
